Ulemo Journal
— The Editorial Process

A Standard for Nutritional Writing.

The following page sets out the editorial principles under which Ulemo Journal operates, the process by which articles are selected and reviewed, and the standards applied to source verification and accuracy. Readers, contributors, and correspondents are welcome to reference this page when assessing the journal's approach.

— Publication Statement

Ulemo Journal operates under the following editorial principles: articles are reviewed by at least one second editor before publication, sources are cited where appropriate, corrections are noted publicly, and writers disclose any commercial relationships that could influence their selection of subject matter.

— 01 / How Articles Are Made

The Article Process, Step by Step.

01

Topic Identification

Topics are identified based on their relevance to the journal's core coverage areas: daily supplement routines, micronutrient awareness, active lifestyle habits, and the relationship between whole food intake and supplementation for men. Topics are not proposed by external commercial parties. The editorial team identifies topics based on patterns observed in published nutritional research and shifts in men's nutritional awareness.

02

Source Identification

Before writing begins, the assigned writer identifies the relevant published nutritional research on the topic. Sources are drawn from publicly available nutritional and dietary research. Where peer-reviewed literature is available, it is cited. Where findings are contested across different studies, that contestation is acknowledged in the article rather than resolved by cherry-picking a preferred result.

03

First Draft and Internal Review

The writer produces a first draft incorporating the identified sources. The draft is reviewed by the primary editor, Marcus Chen, who assesses it for factual accuracy relative to the cited sources, editorial tone, and compliance with the journal's vocabulary standards. Any claims that overstate the research are returned for revision before the article proceeds.

04

Second Editor Review

Following the primary editor's review, the article is passed to a second reader. The second review is focused on three things: readability for a non-specialist audience, accuracy of any numerical or research-based claims, and identification of any language that inadvertently overstates the journal's editorial position. The second reviewer's notes are communicated to the writer before publication.

05

Commercial Disclosure Check

Before publication, the writer confirms in writing whether any commercial relationship exists with the brands, products, or topics covered in the article. Where a commercial relationship is identified, it is noted in the article. Where none exists, the article proceeds without a disclosure note. This check is applied to every article regardless of the writer's previous publication history with the journal.

06

Publication and Corrections

Articles are published with the author's name, publication date, and reading time. Where a factual error is identified after publication — whether by a reader, contributor, or the editorial team — a correction is noted on the article and the correction date is recorded. The original text and the corrected version are both visible to readers where the correction changes the substance of a claim.

— 02 / Source Verification Standards

How Sources Are Assessed and Used.

Primary Sources

Published nutritional research from peer-reviewed journals is the primary source type for factual claims about nutrients, supplements, and their observed roles in active men's routines. Where a claim is supported by a single study, that limitation is noted. Where multiple independent studies converge, the convergence is presented as the basis for the claim.

Contextual Sources

In addition to published research, articles may draw on observational material gathered by the writer — patterns observed in supplement culture, nutritional habits documented in Jakarta and the broader Indonesian context, or editorial correspondence from readers. Observational material is identified as such and is not presented as equivalent to published research findings.

Source Limitations

The journal acknowledges that nutritional research is an evolving field. Findings published in one period may be revised, qualified, or superseded. Where the editorial team becomes aware of significant updates to the research base underpinning a published article, the article is reviewed and updated. Readers who identify relevant recent research are encouraged to contact the editorial team.

— 03 / Accuracy Policy

What the Journal Commits To.

Content published by Ulemo Journal is selected based on published nutritional research and reviewed for editorial accuracy by a second editor before publication.

The journal does not publish claims about supplement outcomes that are not supported by the cited research. It does not describe supplements as producing outcomes that the research only tentatively suggests. It does not omit conflicting research where that research is materially relevant to the claims being made.

Where a correction is necessary after publication, it is made promptly and noted publicly on the article. The editorial team does not silently edit published text. Any substantive change to a published article is disclosed with the date of change and a brief description of what was altered.

— 04 / Vocabulary Standards

How the Journal Describes What Supplements Do.

The language used to describe the role of supplements and nutrients in men's routines is subject to specific standards at Ulemo Journal. The purpose of these standards is to ensure that editorial language accurately represents the nature and extent of the published research, without overstating the degree of certainty the research actually provides.

Writers are asked to use language that reflects the observational and supportive role that supplements play in active men's daily nutritional routines. Supplements are described as contributing to, supporting, or being associated with observed nutritional patterns — not as producing outcomes with certainty.

The journal does not use vocabulary that implies outcome certainty, commercial endorsement of specific products, or personal guidance. Where a writer produces a draft using such vocabulary, the primary editor returns it for revision before the article proceeds to the second review stage.

— 05 / Independence and Disclosure

Commercial Independence as an Editorial Standard.

What Independence Means for Ulemo Journal

Ulemo Journal is an independent editorial publication. Its editorial decisions are not influenced by supplement brands, retailers, or any commercial party with a financial interest in the topics covered. The journal does not accept payment from brands in exchange for favourable coverage, and it does not structure its editorial calendar around commercial partnerships.

Independence, in the journal's working definition, means that the selection of topics, the framing of articles, and the assessment of published research are made entirely on editorial grounds — not commercial ones. Readers should be able to read any article on the journal knowing that its subject matter was chosen because it was editorially relevant, not because a commercial party paid for the coverage.

The Disclosure Standard

All writers are required to disclose any existing commercial relationship with the brands, products, or organisations referenced in their articles. This disclosure is made to the primary editor before the article enters the review process. Where a commercial relationship exists, it is identified in the published article.

The journal also maintains editorial distance from the broader supplement retail market. It does not publish affiliate links. It does not embed product purchase links in editorial content. Where articles reference specific products, they do so in the context of the published research base, not as endorsements.
